Not specifically rare, as when this was designed and produced, Sammy J never lit nor wielded his saber, so the fine folks as Hasbro were like, 'eh, Jedi Guardian, blue' and called it a day. It wasn't until AOTC when Sam made a special request to old George for a purple blade. So don't get all excited - these aren't some ultra rare mistake, but it is a neat novelty. Another oddity is that Ki-Adi Mundi seems to have pilfered Mace's shinybuzzypoky rod.
